Explorers are for young people aged 14 to 18 years of age.
Explorers are encouraged to take part in a wide range of activities, including the normal Scouting activities such as camping, abseiling hiking, etc. as well as working on projects to support their local communities.
Many Explorer Scouts in addition to participating in the programmes they organise in their Units also get involved in helping the younger Sections in Scouting as part of the Young Leader training Scheme. This scheme provides training for the Explorers in how to run meetings for the younger Scouts and gives them opportunities to put this training into practice.
Explorers can work towards a range of badges and awards including the Queen’s Scout Award and badges in the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme.
Meeting personal targets, rather than meeting set standards, is the key approach and challenge.
The Explorer program is very flexible enabling Explorers to fit Scouting around sitting those all-important exams.
